Scott told a friend he had killed his parents |
A man with paranoid schizophrenia who stabbed his parents to death has been ordered to be detained indefinitely in a psychiatric hospital. Alan Scott, 36, of Woolton, admitted manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility at an earlier hearing. Stella Scott, 63, and her 61-year-old husband, also called Alan, were found in a pool of blood at their home in Allerton, Liverpool, in April 2008. Judge Henry Globe imposed the order at Liverpool Crown Court. Scott went to his parents' house in Redington Road in March 2008 and stabbed his mother 37 times and his father 13 times. The following day he tearfully told a friend he had "butchered" his parents in "cold-blooded murder", the court heard. The friend contacted Merseyside Police who found the bodies lying in a pool of blood in the hallway. The court heard that Scott had suffered from psychotic mental illness for 20 years and had twice been sectioned. He was so delusional at the time of the killing that he falsely believed his parents were step-parents who had abused him in his childhood, the court was told. Scott, of Whitney Road, Woolton, also admitted wounding with intent after attacking another patient in a clinic two weeks after his arrest. He also pleaded guilty to causing, along with two others, £50,000 of criminal damage at Ashworth Hospital, where he joined a rooftop protest.
