Ward to reopen after five months
A ward at Skegness Hospital is to reopen after it was closed in an attempt to save money last year.

The Scarborough Ward, a palliative care ward at Skegness Hospital, was closed in November 2005 and will reopen on Monday 27 March following a revamp.

Improvements include access to a new conservatory as well as general repairs to the building and new windows in the Accident and Emergency Department.

This weekend, public tours will be given of the improved 15-bed ward.

The ward was originally closed when East Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust made large cuts to try and recover some of its 7m budget shortfall.

Senior sister, Jackie Shaw, said: "The ward was closed to make financial savings and those savings were met."

She added: "While the ward was closed, we took the opportunity to refurbish the ward so patients will come back to a fully refurbished ward and a far more experienced team."
