Health chiefs have been forced to rethink plans for a multi-storey car park in Leicester after an outcry from residents of a nearby housing estate.

People living at the Bradgate Heights estate said the planned Glenfield Hospital car park would be an 'eyesore' and cause pollution problems.

The proposed 24-hour staff car park is part of a large upgrade of services planned for the hospital.

A spokesperson from the hospital said the car park's size is to be reduced.

Proposals halved

Resident Suzanne Yates, said: "I'm totally outraged that two years ago when we bought the house nothing came up in the searches saying they were planning to build a monstrosity of a car park just outside our fence."

Ian Denison from the Glenfield Hospital, said: "Figures of 2,000 cars have been quoted, we're looking at a car parking proposal of half that now.

"We're also looking at stepping the car park away from the residents and looking at acoustic screening."

Developer of the estate David Wilson Homes is also making a formal planning objection against the car park.
