Plans for charges at Leicester hospital will remain, but fees will drop |
Reductions in proposed parking fees at two Leicester hospitals have been welcomed by the city's patient's forum. Leicester General and Glenfield Hospital managers suggested charging up to 12 a day or 25 a week. That has been cut to 5 daily and 10 weekly.
Zaffer Haq, chairman of the Leicester Patients' Group, said the changes are what he has been campaigning for.
The clamping of cars is set to be reviewed, with fixed penalties handed out instead.
Changes proposed
Peter Reading, trust chief executive, said it wants to bring in charges at a "reasonable level" for patients and visitors, which are high enough to deter those who abuse the facilities.
He said: "The feedback received during public consultation has been taken into consideration and the trust is now proposing five key changes to its initial proposals."
Mr Reading said these will be submitted to the trust board at its 9 June meeting.
The UK Disabled People's Parliament had previously said the new fees would force disabled people to use public transport.
The Leicestershire University Hospitals NHS Trust said there was free Blue Badge parking at both hospitals, and these will be reviewed.
