Leicester hospitals have one of the lowest MRSA rates in England, according to the latest government figures. The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust were found to be the eighth best specialist trust at beating the superbug in a recent survey.
The data shows the hospital had 0.14 episodes of MRSA per 1,000 bed days - the equivalent of one outbreak for each 20 years a patient stays in hospital.
It was the lowest rate recorded at the trust since the survey began in 2001.
The trust runs the Glenfield, Leicester General and Leicester Royal Informary hospitals.
Dr David Jenkins, director of infection prevention and control, said: "Everyone working in the hospitals has worked very hard to tackle MRSA and these figures show that all their efforts have been worthwhile.
"We take infection control very seriously and will continue to work hard to tackle all healthcare associated infections."
