Community group welcomes praise
Braunstone estate
The estate suffers from high levels of deprivation
A troubled Leicester community organisation has received a major boost from the government.

The Local Government Office says it has been encouraged by hard work done by the Braunstone Community Association (BCA) supported by neighbourhood renewal advisors.

The Government had given the BCA until September to meet a number of targets if they were going to keep control of 50m set aside to improve the area.

The Chairman of the BCA, Archdeacon Richard Atkinson, felt the endorsement shows the project has now turned a corner.

He said: "The evidence says we have got some time to go before people really feel their life opportunities are really improving, which is what new deal is all about.

"We are going in the right direction, its still early days. Six months ago we really were at a point of crisis.

"We are heading in the right direction and I really look forward to working with a good team there and with the board for the delivery of the programme."
