New head for troubled team
Braunstone estate
The estate suffers from high levels of deprivation
The Braunstone Community Association (BCA) has appointed the Archdeacon of Leicester, Richard Atkinson, as its new chairman.

The group has suffered from internal divisions over a 50m regeneration scheme funded by 'new deal' money.

The BCA has failed to agree on how to spend the money and earlier last month the chief executive of the association, Brian Griffiths stood down from his role.

This left it without anyone at the helm for the second time in six months and paced the continuation of the project in doubt.

The Archdeacon is already heavily involved in the regeneration plans of the city and has previous experience of working with community associations.

His key role will be to try and help residents set targets of where they want to spend the money.

Mr Atkinson said: "There is immense possibility here. The Braunstone New Deal is based on local people.

"They are at the heart of it. They are on the board, they were at the meetings and harnessing their potential is what it is all about."
