Crisis meeting over community money
Braunstone estate
The estate suffers high levels of deprivation
A public meeting is being held on a Leicester estate aimed at saving a 50m regeneration project from collapse.

The Braunstone Community Association (BCA) has called the meeting in a bid to get the troubled initiative back on track.

The area was awarded 50m three years ago to help it solve a range of social problems.

Residents formed the BCA to oversee the spending of the money and to ensure it was poured into projects they considered to be priorities.

But clashes within the BCA over a range of issues meant government officials were called in 2002.

A six-month freeze was put on further spending until a consensus amongst the association could be reached.

At Saturday's meeting, people will be warned that unless problems can be finally and fully resolved, the whole regeneration of Braunstone is in jeopardy.

They will be told that residents could lose control of the 50m permanently unless they can demonstrate a greater willingness to co-operate and work together for the good of the estate.
