There are fears other pools in Leicester may have to close
A new 10.4m leisure centre in is in trouble before it has been completed.

St Margaret's Baths in Leicester, have already been demolished to make way for the new development in Braunstone, which is intended as a replacement.

But now Leicester City Council says a cash crisis is forcing it to consider scaling down the project, or closing other swimming pools.

Councillors met on Friday to discuss the issue.

The new Braunstone Leisure Centre had been due to open in 2004 - with money from the city council, Sport England, the Braunstone Community Association and Surestart.

It has been heralded as a new centre of excellence for swimming in Leicester, following the closure of St Margaret's Baths, and a boost for the area of Braunstone.

But amid uncertainty about the council's budget there are fears the cost of running the new centre would mean the closure of other baths in Leicester.
