Community head rejects criticism
Braunstone estate
The estate suffers from high levels of deprivation
The independent chairman of the Braunstone Community Association says progress is being made in a review of the community project back, despite concerns from residents.

Richard Atkinson, the Archdeacon of Leicester, took over the leadership of the troubled organisation three months ago.

He is the latest in a series of people to try and turn the association around.

Some residents say they are still not convinced the 50m of government money is being spent effectively.

Mr Atkinson admits there have been delays but insists the project is still going strong.

He said: "Inevitably there has been a bit of a pause over the last three months as the delivery plans and other key issues like that are reviewed or revised.

"Having said that some of the projects that have been underway for some time now are coming to fruition.

"Even in my short time of involvement, I have seen the launch of the swimming pool, the library project and the health centre is about to get going as well, so things are happening."
