Police powers to stop gatherings
Police have been given powers to disperse young people from gathering in an area of a Worcestershire town.

The dispersal order was granted after a number of complaints about damage to property and underage drinking in the Greenlands area of Redditch.

Redditch Borough Council approved the order which will run for six months from Friday.

It means police will have powers to disperse groups of two or more young people under the age of 16.

Officers will be able to return them to their homes if they are unsupervised after 2100 BST.

West Mercia Police said the youths' behaviour has made people in the area feel intimidated and fearful.

The force also said the new move would protect young people who are at risk by being out on the streets late at night.
