The South recycles more than a quarter of its waste |
Residents in the South are the best in the UK at recycling their rubbish, new government figures show. People in Hampshire and Dorset recycled more than 25% of their household waste during 2002/2003, compared to a national average of 14.5%.
The two counties topped the results from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton local authorities are working towards meeting the target of 40% for 2006.
