Derbyshire is to receive 9m in government grants over the next two years to improve services. It is getting the money for hitting performance targets in services supporting older people in their homes and increased bus use.
The bonus funding will be invested in education and crime reduction areas.
Chief executive of Derbyshire County Council Nick Hodgson said the money was a reward for years of hard work by the local authority.
He said: "The actual performance has been happening over the last couple of years or so and it is a result of the government measuring our performance."
He said the 8.8m will be spent over the next two or three years.
The council has just agreed to a total budget of 704.5m for the next financial year - an increase of 33m on this year - leading to a 2.25% increase in council tax.
