Pub alert network tackles trouble
Pub landlords and the police have joined forces in a north Derbyshire town to try to curb an increase in violent and rowdy behaviour.

From Friday night, eight pubs in Bakewell will be linked to each other and the police by a radio network.

If trouble breaks out at one pub, staff there can use a walkie talkie to alert the others.

It is hoped it will mean officers will react faster to problems and make the town safer.

'Carried away'

Richard Templeman, owner of the Wheatsheaf pub, said it would prevent troublemakers from moving around

He said the system could also be useful against shoplifters who sometimes tried to hide in pubs.
