Residents reclaim 'horrific' pub
A pub in Derby once renowned for its "horrific" reputation has been taken over by local residents.

The Blue Boy in Chaddesden, has been renovated and reopened by a community regeneration organisation.

The new look, which cost 300,000, includes a revamped function room and a beer garden.

In the past the pub on Wiltshire Avenue had been associated with violent and drunken behaviour, meaning local people stayed away.

'Regulars return'

Anthony Baines from Derwent Delivers, which runs the pub, said: "It had a horrific reputation and it was quite hard to break that reputation.

"We've changed a lot in here physically and it has been welcomed by everybody that uses it.

"And some of the older punters who used to come in here five or ten years ago have started to come back.

"It's a community centre which sells beer."

The revamp is part of a 42m Government regeneration grant for the Derwent area.
