First banning from pubs and clubs
A 28-year-old man has become the first person to be banned from local pubs and clubs in Colchester under a new scheme to weed out troublemakers.

The ban was made under the 'Bobb' project - 'Behave Or Be Banned', launched by police last Wednesday.

It can stop someone who has been banned from one venue by a court order, from entering other establishments.

The man was served an exclusion order for two years from entering The Prettygate public house by magistrates.

"Fools to themselves"

Details of his exclusion order, for misbehaviour at the pub in The Commons, Colchester, was then considered by the 45 licensed premises taking part in the scheme, who agreed to ban him.

The Colchester man's details and photograph will now be circulated to the licensed premises involved.

Michael Aitchison, divisional licensing officer for Colchester, said: "The whole idea of the scheme is to reduce crime and disorder and violence on premises and not to tolerate such drunken behaviour.

"If they do behave like that, they will find they will have nowhere to go and drink, so they will be fools to themselves."

Anyone thinking of causing trouble in local pubs and clubs should take note, he added.
