Cityscape promotes housing plan
Derby city centre
The new housing will link the city centre with the rail station
More than 5,000 new homes could be built in Derby as part of a major redevelopment project.

The plans from urban redevelopment group Derby Cityscape include an urban village and riverside homes.

John Cadwallader, chief executive of Cityscape Project, said the project will take up to 15 years to complete.

"We need a city that will attract people to come here to work to provide the skilled workforce for the likes of Rolls Royce," he said.

"We will want to build a primary school and develop a route from the city centre to the rail station that is a vital route with health clinics and doctor's surgeries."

The Cityscape group also wants to develop a cycleway and walkway to the city from the station, but has rejected the idea of a tram.

Cityscape was formed by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister along with Derby City Council and East Midlands Development Agency to promote development in the city during the next 20 years.
