The scheme aims to provide affordable homes for sale and rent
A new scheme to create more affordable housing in Derby has been opened.

The Brambles at Heatherton Village has been developed as a partnership by Derby City Council, Home Housing, the Housing Corporation and Miller Homes.

The 51-home project is made up of 14 leasehold bungalows for the over 55s, 16 homes for rent and 21 two and three-bedroom homes for sale.

The Mayor of Derby, Councillor Ruth Skelton, officially opened the viewing home on Thursday.

Sue Glithero, the council's director of policy, said: "There is a shortage of affordable homes for rent and purchase in Derby.

"The scheme at Heatherton is a good example of how the council, housing associations and developers can all work together."

Sue Cook, regional director from Home Housing, said: "The Brambles is a first for Home Housing as it incorporates some houses for sale, something we have not done before.

"Our aim is to provide high quality, affordable housing for people. We have managed to do this with The Brambles and also provide a range of homes for people to either rent, lease or buy."
