A walker was airlifted to hospital after falling from a notorious ridge in the Lake District. The 44-year-old West Cumbrian man was on Helvellyn's Striding Edge when he fell 50ft (15m). Mountain rescuers from the Patterdale team stretchered the man down the fell to the Pride of Cumbria air ambulance. He is not thought to have suffered serious injuries in the incident, which happened on Thursday lunchtime in poor weather conditions. Fifteen Patterdale team members were involved in the difficult rescue, which took about five hours.
