Teenagers warned over danger road
Teenagers are being warned not to take chances on the A590 in Cumbria.

The Furness coroner told relatives and friends of three teenagers who were killed in a crash near Greenodd, that the road leaves no margin for error.

Ian Smith said teenagers had to realise that they were not immortal.

Mr Smith recorded a verdict of unlawful killing on the two passengers who died, 15-year-old Vicky Clarke and 18-year-old Anthony Ramsden.

He gave a verdict of misadventure on the driver Gareth Lewis, at the inquest on Wednesday.

Safety calls

Collision investigator Anthony Foy said people had to be aware that speed kills.

He said: "Not only was it [the car] travelling well in excess of the speed limit and the speed appropriate for the road, it was travelling at 90mph.

"That corner was not going to be negotiated at that speed.

"This incident was always going to end in tragedy when the vehicle was travelling along that road at that type of speed."

Two other teenagers who were in the car survived the accident, which happened on 16 March this year.

The tragedy prompted further calls for the A590 to be made safer, including from Vicky's father Michael.
