The father of a teenager killed on the A590 in South Cumbria wants safety improvements made to the road.

Vicky Clarke, 15, from Grange-over-Sands, was travelling with four friends when the car they were in crashed off the road between Bouth and Greenodd in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Gareth Lewis, from Grange, who'd turned 18 on the day of the crash; and Anthony Ramsden, who was 18 and from Ulverston, also died in the accident. Two other teenagers were injured.

Vicky Clarke's father Michael said the authorities must make the road safer.

He said: "Obviously it is a very bad road and things need to be looked at, not just the straights, but the whole road.

"The road is littered with flowers from the Grange roundabout right through to Barrow."

Car hit tree

Inquests into the deaths of the three youths were opened and adjourned on Monday.

Gareth Lewis, 18, and Victoria Clarke, 15, both from Grange-over-Sands were killed along with 18-year-old Anthony Ramsden, from Ulverston, in a car crash in the early hours of Sunday.

The car, driven by Mr Lewis, crashed into a tree on the A590 as they headed towards Ulverston.

A fourth youngster was seriously hurt in the accident at Greenodd, between Kendal and Barrow-in-Furness.

The injured teenager is being treated at Furness General Hospital in Barrow.

Inquiries into exactly how the car came to leave the road will take some weeks.
