Car death teenagers 'unlawfully killed'
Two teenagers who died in a high-speed car smash in Cumbria, were unlawfully killed, a coroner has ruled.

Driver Gareth Lewis, 18, and Victoria Clarke, 15, both from Grange-over-Sands, were killed along with 19-year-old Anthony Ramsden, from Ulverston.

Furness coroner Ian Smith recorded a verdict of unlawful killing on the two dead passengers and misadventure on the driver, at the inquest in Barrow.

Cumbria Police carried out a lengthy investigation into why the car, which was carrying a group of five youths, left the road and crashed into a tree on the A590 near Greenodd on 16 March this year.

Mr Smith heard evidence from the two survivors of the crash who told the police that Mr Lewis was driving at speeds of up to 100 mph.

The inquest heard Mr Lewis had received the car as an 18th birthday gift from his parents.

The coroner concluded Mr Lewis had made the error in driving too fast.

The group were travelling from Grange to Ulverston in the early hours of the morning when the accident happened.

The tragedy prompted further calls for the A590 to be made safer, including from Vicky's father Michael.
