Coventry's three MPs are meeting the transport minister on Monday to ask for a railway station to be built at the city's Arena football stadium. Geoffrey Robinson, Jim Cunningham and Bob Ainsworth hope Tony McNulty can persuade the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA) to change its position.
Mr Robinson said plans for a station were "scuppered" by the SRA decision to downgrade the Coventry-Nuneaton line.
The MPs say a station at the Arena will help reduce congestion.
'Inadequate' facilities
Thousands of fans will visit Coventry City Football Club's new stadium on match days, and the venue only has enough parking for 2,000 cars.
Geoffrey Robinson said: "The station could really help the Arena development meet its targets for getting visitors on to public transport and reduce congestion in the area.
"At the same time, we could get a better service for thousands of people living and working in north Coventry.
"Coventry is well served with transport links along the east/west corridor with the West Coast Mainline, but has inadequate transport facilities running north to south."
Mr Robinson added: "As the Arena project continues to grow we do not believe the opportunity to build a railway station should be missed."
The trio are being joined by members of the city council, including its leader, Conservative councillor Ken Taylor.
He said he was hoping for a "positive response" from Mr McNulty.
The meeting is due to take place at 1430 BST.
