Apathy puts brakes on car sharing
A scheme in mid-Cornwall to encourage people to share cars could soon fold because of a lack of interest.

Only one person has joined the Cornwall Co-Cars scheme in St Austell in the 11 months since it was founded.

The idea was tried in St Dennis and failed to take off so it was moved to St Austell last April.

But with only one member signed up, organisers said that there was now every chance it could be closed down there as well.

Cornwall Co-Cars is part of a national series of co-operatives which aim to cut costs, congestion and pollution.

Members pay a fee and then are charged per mile or per hour when they sign the car out.
