Hospital staff to pay for parking
Treliske Hospital
Hospital staff will now have to pay 36 a year for a parking space
A new parking regime is being introduced at the Royal Cornwall Hospital to help deal with a problem caused by a lack of spaces.

Hospital staff will now have to pay 36 a year for a parking space.

But students attending the new Knowledge Spa are to banned from parking at Treliske unless they share a car with three other people.

Judy Rowe, site services manager at Treliske, said the hospital was having to follow government guidelines.

Missing procedures

She said what they really needed was a park-and-ride scheme.

"The government has laid down this initiative with the transport plan that you are restricted to how many spaces you can have," she said.

"We have a lot of staff here and not enough parking spaces, but we have to do the best we can.

"Last week and the week before students were taking every pay and display space and patients were missing important procedures.

"It was my priority to get the spaces back for the patients and visitors."

Staff charges are to be reduced on a pro-rata basis according to the number of hours worked.

Cornwall County Council has applied for a grant to set up a park-and-ride scheme, but that could take up to a year to come through.
