Atlantic rower more than half-way
Oliver Hicks
The Royal Navy helped with food supplies earlier this month
A 23-year-old man from Suffolk is due to arrive in Cornwall next month after crossing the Atlantic in a rowing boat.

Olly Hicks set off from New York at the end of May and is hoping to become the youngest man to complete the challenge, in the shortest time.

He is about 1,000 nautical miles off the Isles of Scilly - more than half way through the 3,000 mile trip.

The oarsman is currently due to arrive in Falmouth in the middle of September and could break the 62-day record.

Children's charity

Mr Hicks has already been given a helping hand from the Royal Navy.

His journey was delayed earlier this month because of bad weather and HMS Cumberland was called upon to re-stock him with food and drink.

He is raising money for the charity Hope and Homes which helps children across the world who have nowhere to live because of war or disaster.

Fewer than 150 people have rowed the Atlantic and only 12 have completed the west-east trip.
