Publican ready for solo ocean row
James Tiny Little
Mr Little's rowing boat has already crossed the Atlantic three times
A publican will be pulling oars instead of pints in a solo charity row across the Atlantic Ocean.

James (Tiny) Little, 48, of Norwich's Alexandra pub is leaving for La Gomera in the Canary Islands next month to row 3,000 miles to Antigua.

Mr Little has been training hard for more than a year.

He will be raising money for the Davenport Trust, which was set up after Shaun Davenport, 17, of Norwich, committed suicide in January 2003.

Shaun's father, Colin Davenport, was a regular at the Alexandra and Mr Little, father to two teenagers himself, is passionate about raising money for the charity.

After the months of training he is looking forward to getting under way as rowing is all he thinks about now.

"I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet," he said.

He plans to keep busy with books, a shortwave radio, a jukebox with his favourite music - and thoughts about his next diary entry.

When asked about the risks involved in the ocean challenge, he dismisses any thoughts of storms, sharks and capsizing: "I have no fears. The only stuff going into the sea will be what I have eaten."

The journey could take up to 100 days to complete in his boat, Womble, which has already crossed the Atlantic three times.
