A Norwich publican's solo rowing trip across the Atlantic is under way after a 24-hour delay for technical reasons.

James "Tiny" Little has left the port of La Gomera in the Canary Islands on an epic 100-day, 3,000-mile journey to Antigua in the West Indies.

The ex-Royal Navy engineer is landlord of Norwich's Alexander Tavern and joint owner of a micro-brewery.

He is raising money for the Davenport Trust which helps young people who may be suffering from depression.

Before setting out Mr Little said: "I'm disappointed for the supporters who came out to see me off but the hold up is for safety reasons and we wanted to get these straight.

Delighted to leave harbour

"I'm really eager to get on with the trip and will be delighted when I leave the harbour.

"The prospect of life at sea is exciting and daunting.

"The Davenport Trust is a charity named after a bright 17-year-old lad who committed suicide after suffering depression unknown to the people around him.

"Trust members help youngsters, parents, siblings and friends to spot the key warning signs of this type of depression."
