Unruly yobs face night beach ban

Four other Cornish beaches have dispersal orders in place
A ban on using a beach in Cornwall at night will come into force on 1 July until the end of August in a bid to combat anti-social behaviour.

The ban at Daymer Beach, near Rock, was jointly agreed by police, North Cornwall District Council and the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership.

A security company employed to enforce the ban will be supported by police.

People will be actively encouraged not to enter the beach after 2200 hours each night.

No return

The ban follows complaints by residents about rowdy and anti-social behaviour involving up to 500 young people who congregate on the beach every night during the summer months.

A dispersal order for Polzeath beach has also been agreed.

Orders are currently in place for Towan Beach, Newquay and Gyllingvase Beach in Falmouth.

It means that if two or more people are causing a disturbance, police can ask them to leave the area and not return with 24 hours.
