Land purchase boosts action plan

A significant step has been taken in a major action plan to revitalise rundown parts of west Cornwall.

The urban regeneration company trying to bring new life to Camborne, Pool and Redruth (CPR) has acquired a key piece of land.

The site in Pool has been earmarked for a 16m business quarter with links to Cornwall College.

The purchase comes three months after the launch of the CPR Regeneration company's 15-point plan for the area.

Negotiations continuing

The overall action plan envisages 150m worth of projects across a five-mile wide corridor of urban development which has suffered decades of industrial decline.

It was put together with the help of local authorities, the South West Regional Development Agency, The Prince's Foundation, and local business and education leaders.

Local people have been waiting to see if CPR Regeneration, a government-backed company, could deliver on what is proposed.

Negotiations are still under way on other sites in the development area, including on an electricity depot which is due to make way for a new road link.

The company has also played a part in the design of a new video store.
