The company will move to the old CompAir Holman site next week |
A Cornwall urban regeneration company is moving from its current offices so they can be used to create 60 new jobs. The Camborne, Pool and Redruth Regeneration Company is to relocate from its current premises at the Tolvaddon Energy Park in Camborne.
It is part of a deal to set up the regional headquarters of a new Government service at Tolvaddon.
Consumer Direct is a 30m national initiative modelled partly on the success of the NHS Direct service.
The regeneration company will move to the former CompAir Holman site next week. Consumer Direct will provide help for consumers on a range of rights and consumer issues via a single telephone number.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTi) is investing 8m in the Cornwall project, which will offer help to people from 15 different local authority areas.
It will be one of four regional centres being created for Consumer Direct.
An initial 25 jobs will be created. More are to come in later years, and many are expected to be recruited locally.
CPR Regeneration will be working with JobCentre Plus and Trading Standards to ensure that as many of the jobs as possible go to local people.
David Brewer, who chairs the board of CPR Regeneration, said: "Without our move from Tolvaddon to the site, it is unlikely that Cornwall would have been able to attract this DTi contract.
"The move also puts us at the heart of one of our key regeneration areas and will allow us to take a more hand-on approach."
Jill Ferrett from Cornwall County Council said: "The council and its Trading Standards service are delighted with the support received from colleagues across the South West to set up this call centre on their behalf."
"Consumer Direct will deliver much better facilities and resources to help local consumers."
The Consumer Direct service is due to go live later in the year.
