Police target young mini-bikers
Mini-motorbikes
Riders need to be licensed and insured to use the bikes on roads
Children riding mini-motorbikes illegally are to be targeted in a police crack down.

Concerned residents in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire, spoke to police after an increase in the use of the bikes on highways and pavements in the town.

Peterborough councillor David Sanders, who runs a motorbike shop in the city, said legal riders were being brought into disrepute by the development.

He called for more surveillance in the town of youngsters using mini-bikes.

Mr Sanders has never ridden on the machines but said he would relish the chance.

"They look good fun and I would love to ride on one but I absolutely disagree with how they are used on roads and footpaths.

"Riders frequently have no safety helmets, insurance or licences. They race between pedestrians and young children playing and that's the kind of thing that brings legitimate biking into disrepute," he said.
