A number of incidents on estates has prompted the council's warning |
Youths who terrorise residents by riding around on motorised scooters have been warned they face anti-social behaviour orders. Reading Borough Council has joined forces with Thames Valley Police and community wardens, after a number of incidents on the Dee Park estate.
The crackdown also includes go-peds, Mini Moto Bikes, Monkey Bikes, mopeds and motorcycles, the authority said.
Troublemakers face having their vehicle confiscated and eviction, police said.
Supt Dilip Amin, area commander for Reading, said: "Police have the power to seize motor vehicles used to cause a nuisance within neighbourhoods.
 | We want to send a clear message that anti-social behaviour from driving motorised scooters will not be tolerated |
"If a vehicle is being driven illegally or anti-socially we can order a person to stop using it, issue them with a warning and, if they fail to heed the instruction, we will take the vehicle from them.
"Most of the mechanically-propelled vehicles must be driven with a licence, insurance and safety gear.
"If this is not followed, we will act."
Tony Page, lead councillor for community action, said: "We want to send a clear message that anti-social behaviour from driving motorised scooters will not be tolerated."
Community wardens, Neighbourhood Watch, housing and nuisance council teams are to distribute guides about the correct use of the vehicles throughout the borough.
