Patients, staff and the public are to be consulted on proposals to make Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge smoke-free. The trust may also ban smoking at other areas on the site, including university departments, the Medical Research Council and GlaxoSmithKline's office.
A spokesman said it accepted that people smoked but had a duty as a hospital to promote health.
The consultation will end on 28 October and a decision is expected by December.
