Residents fight post offices threat
Protest at Chesterton Road
Residents will fight to save their post offices around Cambridge
Residents turned out in force to fight for their post offices after the Royal Mail marked three Cambridge branches for closure.

More than 100 people attended a public meeting in the city on Wednesday night to discuss the proposals.

Royal Mail has said there is not enough business to maintain Chesterton Road, Victoria Road and North Arbury post offices and has started a consultation which could see them close.

At the meeting, chaired by Cambridge MP Anne Campbell, residents told a representative from Royal Mail the closures would be similar to taking part of their community away.

One resident told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Our area is a lot like a village and it would be like losing part of our village."

It is the second time Royal Mail has marked the Victoria Road post office for closure as part of its cost-cutting reorganisation.

Six months ago the service was under threat but was given a reprieve after residents fought to keep it open.

Residents served by all three post offices have six weeks to convince Royal Mail they are viable and should have a future.
