Five post offices in west Derbyshire are likely to close as part of a national restructuring programme. The Royal Mail says there are too many branches competing for too little business in that area of the county.
Five of the sub-postmasters contacted by Royal Mail in the west of the county suggested said that closure was the best option.
Four of the post offices are in Belper and the other in Matlock Green.
Post Office spokesman Mike Dalton says the closures are in the best interests of residents.
"We feel that if we close the five branches that it will give the other branches a better chance of survival."
He said that the Post Office thinks there are "far too many branches chasing the same customer base."
