Business stretches across pond
Bristol Airport
Passenger numbers are set to rocket at the airport
The first ever trade mission from the south west to the US took off from Bristol International Airport on Tuesday morning.

Businesses in the South West are hoping the new direct flights will improve commerce in the region.

The South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) flew out from the Lulsgate-based airport with 50 delegates from local companies.

They will meet potential customers along the Eastern seaboard of the USA.

Summer months

Direct flights to New York from Bristol started earlier this month with demand from the business community and tourists expected to be high.

The airport is expecting about 16,000 passengers to pass through the terminal each day over the summer months.

Stephen Peacock, Director of Enterprise and Innovation at the South West Regional Development Agency, said: "The launch of a direct daily service between Bristol and Newark is a very significant development for South West England.

"The trade mission will help some of our most innovative companies to forge new links with potential customers, partners and suppliers."
