Airport's shopping area to expand
Drawing of new W H Smith store
The relocation of W H Smith has made space for the expansion
A 7m scheme is under way to double the amount of shopping in the departures area at Bristol International Airport.

Half the cost is being met by the new retailers and caterers, to be announced later this year.

Security is moving to the site formerly occupied by W H Smith, which has moved to the ground floor.

The new larger security zone is due to open after Christmas and will feature another search facility to cater for increasing passenger numbers.

The tax and duty free store will expand into the old security area, becoming 75% bigger.

Four new boutiques will open close to the boarding gates.

Finance director, Jim McAuliffe, said: "Bristol International is widely recognised as the region's main airport and as it grows, so does the need for improved retail and catering facilities."

The work is due to be completed by May 2006.
