BA to expand services from West
British Airways aircraft
BA is bringing in a sixth aircraft and is adding new routes
The airline British Airways (BA) has announced it is to expand its services from Bristol International Airport.

BA is bringing a sixth aircraft to Bristol and is adding new flights to Milan, Zurich and Frankfurt from April.

The flagship carrier is making 75,000 seats available at a guaranteed price of 79 return.

To cope with expanding services, the airport's owners are spending 15m developing new check-in areas and catering facilities.

'Airport city'

Tony Horwood, the airport's Director of Aviation Development said Bristol is proving an attractive option for airlines.

"We've got a great catchment area, we have seven million people within a two-hour drive of the airport," he said.

"Bristol is a strong, prosperous region and far more people want to fly, not just to go on holiday, but to see friends, relatives, as well as go on business trips."

But some residents living near the airport are concerned that the expansion will lead to more disturbances.

One told BBC News: "The worst effect is high noise levels, particularly in the summer when windows are open.

"We also get greatly increased traffic on local roads and we turn into airport city during the holidays when people park indiscriminately and leave their cars here for a fortnight."
