More than 2,500 properties in the west Berkshire area were flooded |
A grant of 580,000 has been pledged by the government to help communities in west Berkshire affected by last summer's flooding. More than 2,500 properties in the area were affected by the deluge in July.
Transport minister Rosie Winterton announced the funding - part of a 23m package for eight local authorities - to help with bridge and road repairs.
A West Berkshire Council spokesman said the money was "very welcome" but would not cover all the costs incurred.
Ms Winterton said it was an interim measure to help councils with immediate needs.
"Last year's floods damaged many local roads, and I know how important it is for communities to get those roads repaired," she said.
"This funding gives councils an immediate boost to begin repair work, as well as help them to continue assessing their roads for further damage that requires repair."
But the spokesman for West Berkshire Council said: "The money is actually re-imbursement for road repairs this council has already carried out and paid for up front.
"We had to apply to the DfT for this.
"Although the total in government money is very welcome, it won't cover all the costs the council, and others, have incurred and for which we will be paying for some time yet."
Any further requests for funding would be assessed against the "necessary criteria", a Department For Transport (DfT) spokesperson said.
The grant brings the total government funding for flood damage in west Berkshire to more than 1.6m.
