Legally and illegally held weapons are eligible for the amnesty |
Gloucestershire Police have recovered 25 weapons in the first week of the national firearms amnesty. Guns handed in include shot guns, a handgun, a rifle, a small bore pistol, ball bearing guns, and pellet guns.
Six police stations in the county began accepting weapons on 31 March and will continue to do so until 30 April.
Chief Superintendent Steve Norgate said: "These early results shows us the weapons are out there and we are certainly encouraged by the number of weapons handed in so far."
Eight firearms have been handed in at Cheltenham Police Station, six at Gloucester, four at Stroud, five at Stow-on-the-Wold, one at Cirencester, and one at Coleford.
Legally and illegally held weapons and ammunition are eligible for the amnesty, and police say those handing them in will be immune from prosecution.
