Car were burned out during the riot
A Lincolnshire man who hurled missiles at the police during a football riot in London has been jailed for 21 months.

The judge told Julian Page, 36, that he found it "extraordinary" that a family man could act in such a way.

Woolwich Crown Court was told that Page, who comes from West Street in Stamford, had travelled to watch Millwall's playoff semi-final against Birmingham City on 2 May this year.

But violence began after the game when Millwall fans were asked to move on and started to pelt the police with missiles.

Violent disorder

Page, a roofer, was captured on police video chanting and shouting and throwing a number of missiles at the police.

He picked up a paving slab and smashed it into pieces, which meant the debris could be thrown at officers.

Traffic lights were uprooted, cars set ablaze, and rocks hurled through terrified residents' windows during the riot.

In all 157 police officers and 26 police horses were injured during the two-hour riot.

Page admitted violent disorder and was banned from every football ground in England and Wales for six years.
