| Wednesday, 6 November, 2002, 10:25 GMT Bali victim's body identified ![]() The cousins had been in regular contact with home The body of one of two British cousins feared dead following the Bali bomb attack has been positively identified. Laura France, 18, who had been on a eight-month round-the-world trip with her cousin Natalie Perkins, 20, had been on the island for a month when the blast tore through the Sari Club. The two girls, both from Sheffield, had been missing, presumed dead, since the bombing last month.
South Yorkshire Police issued a statement on Wednesday on behalf of the girls' parents - George and Sandra France, of Norfolk Park, Sheffield, and Sharon and Tony Perkins, of Beauchief, Sheffield - confirming that one body had been identified as Laura's. Arrangements are now being made to bring her body back to Sheffield but it is expected to be several weeks before a funeral and memorial service can be arranged. "Both girls' parents would like to give sincere thanks to family and friends for all the cards and flowers received and in particular the kindness shown at such a difficult time for everyone," the family's statement said. Gap year Last month, the girls' aunt said they had been having "the time of their lives" on their trip. Alison Patey-Colton, sister to both the girls' mothers, said: "We have suffered a double tragedy which has affected all of the family very deeply." It is believed the cousins were dancing with new friends from Liverpool when the attack happened. Laura had been taking a gap year and Natalie had taken time off from her job to travel with her. Laura leaves behind 12-year-old twin brothers, while Natalie leaves a brother, 18, and a sister, 17. A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said Natalie's parents were still waiting for further information from authorities in Bali. |
