A man from County Durham has been confirmed dead after the bomb blast which rocked the Sari Club in Bali.

The Foreign Office said on Tuesday that garage owner Ian Findley, 55, had been killed on the attack on the club in Kuta.

The alarm was raised after Mr Findley, who had a business at Craghead, near Stanley, failed to return to his home in Grange Vila in the county on Sunday.

But his name was not added to the list of the dead until DNA was taken from his brother Brian to help with the identification process.

'Saved life'

Ian Stafford, 41, of Annfield Plain, County Durham, was in Bali with Mr Findley.

He said: "I was behind Ian and he took the full force of the blast. He shielded me from the worst and without doubt saved my life."

The pair had known each other for 20 years after having met through the garage business.

Mr Findley is the second man from the north east of England to have been confirmed as a victim of the atrocity.

On Monday it was confirmed that 33-year Clive Walton, from Roker, Sunderland, a member of a Hong Kong Rugby Union team, died in the blast.

Mr Walton was a member of the HKFC Vandals team which was in Bali to compete in a rugby tournament.

Mr Walton, captain of the rugby union club in Hong Kong, leaves a wife and two sisters.

His parents, Jack and Lilian, are both Sunderland City councillors.

They have flown out to Hong Kong to meet Foreign Office officials, to discuss bringing their son's body home.

A statement from Sunderland City Council said: "Elected members and officers extend their deepest sympathy to his (Mr Walton's) wife, to his parents Jack and Lilian and the family in this tragic loss."
