How different areas performed | | There are wide variations in the performance of different areas of England as seen in the annual results tables for 2004.
The table below shows the 150 local education authorities ranked on the basis of their schools' achievements in the proportion of students getting the equivalent of at least five good GCSEs.
The other columns are:
VA - the average value added score, showing the progress children made between leaving primary school and taking their GCSEs.
A/AS - the average points per student scored in A-level, AS-level and Key Skills exams.
