How different areas performed | | There are wide variations in the performance of different areas of England as seen in the GCSE results tables. The table below shows the 150 local authorities ranked on the basis of their schools' achievements in the proportion of students getting the equivalent of at least five GCSEs at grades A*-C in 2004, using two measures:
- OLD: the traditional measure of any five GCSEs or the vocational equivalents
- NEW: the benchmark the government is introducing, which requires two of the five to be actual GCSEs in English and in maths
The final column shows the difference between the two. Click the name of any authority to see the results for all its schools.
