Opposition MP Job Sikhala has became well known in Africa after claiming to have been tortured by the Mugabe regime.

Job, who is an MP with the Movement for Democratic Change said he had to endure severe torture after being arrested in January.

He said that he was tortured for eight hours with the protagonists even attaching electrodes to his genitals and giving him electric shocks.

The MP also claims that he was beaten on the soles of his feet with planks of wood and was forced to drink toxins and urine.

Mr Sikhala, who was arrested along with was charged with masterminding a treason attempt against the ruling Zanu-PF party.

Confession

He said armed police tortured them after bursting into a hotel room where he had gone to meet Gabriel Shumba, a human rights lawyer, on January 14.

The 31-year-old claims that he 'cracked' and confessed during the torture and the case was thrown out of court by a magistrate in Harare after hearing testimony of the torture.

Job Sikhala was born in Zimbabwe in 1972 and is member of parliament for the St Mary's constituency, an area of Harare which has been blighted by political violence.

He is married and has a degree in history and economics history.

Apart from the arrest and torture, Job Sikhala also claims to have been assaulted at his home in 2001 by Mugabe's soldiers.
