Pius Ncube is an outspoken critic of Zimbabwe's president Robert Mugabe.

He was trained for seven years by Jesuits in the former Rhodesia and left to study for two years in Rome.

The Catholic archbishop returned to his homeland in the 1970s, at the height independence war.

He has witnessed brutality from President Mugabe since the 1980s, when the president was involved in the armed struggle against the Ndebele.

The church has been accused of bowing down to Mugabe - some of them have even given their full support to his actions.

But not Archbishop Ncube.

He has been one of the very few public figures prepared to speak out against Mr Mugabe - including the gathering of evidence of human rights abuses.

He has said that the president did not care if his people starved and he should stand down.

As a result, his life has been dangerous.

His phones have been tapped, he has received numerous death threats and has been accused of raping nuns in the state owned press.
