Six Days that Changed the Middle East

Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem

Jeremy Bowen, the BBC's Middle East Editor, explores the causes, the events and the unfinished business of the 1967 War in the Middle East.

Forty years on he travels to Israel, the Palestinian territories, Egypt, Syria and Jordan to talk to some of the key players on both sides, and to show how 1967 and its legacy has shaped what is happening in the region today.

Part Two: Advances

On 5 June, 1967, Israel launched the first air attacks on Egypt and Jordan.

The Arab air forces were caught unawares and many warplanes were destroyed even before they took off.

Next Israel advanced on the Old City of Jerusalem.

This Radio 4 series, also available on World Service, was first broadcast in May 2007
