Implementation of GST is delayed
A decision on whether Jersey's new Goods and Services Tax (GST) should be marked at the till or on the shelf is being delayed.

Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf wants the 3% to be displayed on the price tag.

But traders are campaigning for it to be charged at the till.

Now businesses will be able to decide how to display the charge which is due to start in April next year and will include nearly everything sold.

A final decision will not be made until the GST has been in place for a year.

Ministers will then review price marking practice among island retailers and complete a survey of shoppers.

The Jersey Democratic Alliance is organising a public meeting about the GST on Thursday at the Town Hall.

The speakers will include Deputy Geoff Southern, representatives from Jersey's Chamber of Commerce and the Hospitality Association.
